HE DID IT!!!! Absolutely amazing game. Federer makes history! But so does Roddick. He pushed and pushed.
Best improved game he has ever played. He to should be proud of this game.

Totally amazing! I had to go sit in the recliner because I was afraid of missing a single shot, ha! All kinds of records were set today!

Yep. And now I need to get cleaned up. I was afraid I would not have time, because I didn't want to miss a shot, either.

Where's SP, he usually beatsme here for tennis! Hey, Red and AE. Here, just lurking mostly these days.
What a match! Being a Fed guy, I was nervous. But, Andy played
brilliant.
But, Andy had his chances. He broke to win the first set, then, was up 6-2 in the tiebreak in the 2nd, but Roger comes back to win 6 straight to take it. Then wins the 3rd set tiebreak. Andy served big in the 4th, and broke Fed, and won it. And the 5th set? WOW. Roger was so determined. I think it was 8-8 in the 5th, when Roger was down 15-40, and he hit 2 HUGE serves, and managed to pull out that game, and held Andy back, and seemed to hold easily afterwards. And slowly but surely, Fed started to read Roddick's serve, and Roddick got a little tired, and Fed pressed, until finally, he broke Andy for the only time to win the match. Incredible. 15. GOAT? Maybe. Just glad that I saw them all. And Serena and Venus own the lawn. But, today's all Roger.
But, think about this. When I wrote this a year ago, little did I see this coming. Federer was stuck at 12 after losing the heartbreaking 5-setter to Rafa. I layed on the schmaltz about Roger being done eventually. Well, at the US Open, when they introduce the former champions, Roger's introduced last. The crowd goes NUTS! Federer was stunned! "You luv me!!!!". The crowd wills him to the Semis. He takes out Djokovic in the semis,
then he gets lucky. Tropical Storm Hanna delays Murray-Nadal finish until Sunday. Murray wins, but has nothing for Fed. 13.
Then, starting out this year, he has a terrible start. Losing every tournament he enters, including another 4+hour heartbreaking loss to Nadal in Australia. It got so bad, he actually broke his racket! Winless going into the clay court season. What happens? Well... Fast-forward to Madrid. Rafa, playing a brutal clay court schedule, has a 4+ hour semi-final match against, of all people, Djokovic!!!! The very guy Rafa and Rog both blasted for not going the distance in majors, was the one guy that shifted the tennis universe. He didn't win that match, but he wore him out More importantly, Rafa's knees out. Federer beat Nadal on clay the next day, and that boosted his confidence. On to Paris. Rafa gets taken out the 4th round! And it's clear, something is wrong... Federer, in the 4th round, down 2 sets and a break point to Haas. Haas wins the point, he serves for it. Fed hits a MONSTER forehand! Match over. Fed in 5. It gets better. After Monfils in 3, guess what he gets? Murray out. Djokovic long gone. And a guy he's never lost to in the semis. Wins in 5. Lucky sap! Then he gets another guy he's never lost to in the final. So, the tennis gods smile on him. Nadal out, two undefeated against. First ever French Open. He finally gets to hold La Coupe des Mousquetaires. VERY HEAVY TROPHY. 14.
On to London. Of course, Fed, after partying, decides to skip his usual grass court warmup in Germany. But Rafa decides to try to test his knees in 2 exhibitions. He just can't go. It was on the grass at Wimbledon 2 years ago that Rafa was on the bad side of it all, having to play day after day to get to the final. And the 5th set, was when he hurt his knee. The other went bad as well, but his right knee(?) is the one they worry over. Makes what he did last year all the more remarkable. But this year, those knees finally gave way, and Rafa couldn't play, while in his half, Fed pretty much cruised to the final. And then today. WOW. 15. Much lighter trophy.
Nike and NetJets are thrilled.
Andy was awesome. Couldn't have played better against Hewitt, Murray, and Federer. Just outstanding. But, there can be only one. All Hail. Roger Federer. sp

Great recap SP! You know, like the Williams sisters, for me it was hard to pick a side. I wanted Federer to make history but I also wanted
poor Andy to finally win one. Maybe next year will be his year.

I'm more partial to Venus, but Serena just outplayed her.
Yep, part of me wanted it to keep going. I actually visioned Andy winning it. He really deserved it with all the work he put in. He pulled out of Davis Cup this week with a hip flexor(I think Patrick McEnroe told him to take it easy, because Roddick probably would've gone to give it a try at least). But, you have to like his chances at the US Open. And Nadal's coming back for Montreal, accoring to his camp. sp

I often wonder about the winner when the sister's play each other. Did one give it to the other? We'll never know I'm sure, but still, it makes one
wonder.
Andy must have a strong heart and a strong will because he keeps coming back and keeps getting beat. I hope he wins the US Open!
